Personal Description:

Hi! My name is Melanie and I work full time as a fine artist and designer. I work in oil painting, drawing, illustration, graphic design, furniture design and sculpture. I love art history, especially modern art and am a huge contemporary art nerd! I love discussing ideas around philosophy, writing, music and film and how all creative mediums are so deeply intertwined.

Tutoring Experience:

I was a teaching assistant in University to my art history professor, but am looking to gain more one on one experience. I am going to be pursuing my Master's degree and this will be very helpful on my applications as well as building a foundation for eventually teaching at the university level.

Tutoring Approach:

I am so passionate about the arts and the history of art and design, I would love to share my knowledge and experience with others. Whether you are looking for tutoring for the earliest stages of life, up to adults who are looking to expand their knowledge base, I work with everyone and tailor my approach to student's needs.
I think the most important thing is building a strong foundation when learning about art, to really understand what it is! Secondly, understand how to look at it and digest it is equally as important. If students are looking to become artists themselves, or make art then of course we will delve into process and materials.
I had difficulty with concentration when I was studying and so I am committed to taking time to understand the unique needs of students and the best methods of learning. Furthermore, I would love my tutoring to become more interactive between us. I also see a lot of benefit for my own practice to be able to learn from my students too!
