Personal Description:
I recently graduated from the Masters of Teaching program from the University of Toronto and am currently teaching in the Waterloo Region District School Board.
I was a struggling student all throughout high school but thanks to a few unique insights, I went from a 60%'s student to top of my class in under two years - with scholarships to prove it! My passion for teaching comes from seeing students who are labeled as failures, flourish into students capable of achieving any academic endeavor.
There are no bad students, just teachers who don't know how to engage with a variety of learning styles.
I am not those teachers.
Tutoring Experience:
I have tutored many students privately in various subjects. I have also tutored small groups of students who needed to pass exams.
I started my tutoring experience by tutoring underprivileged students on multiple instruments so that they could get their music credit.
I then tutored coding, computer science, AutoCad, Photoshop, and other coding based programs such as Python and Alice.
I also tutored students in electrical engineering, robotics and computer logic (Topics I even competed in!).
During university I tutored students and peers in mathematics and science.
In my last year of university, as part of my research project, I also guided a student in my field of research.
I tutored students as young as grade 3 and as old as university students.
-UPDATE:
I have found a lot of success with student athletes for some reason, Hockey players and students with recent concussion especially.
--NOTE:
I charge $70 per session, which is one hour plus anytime needed to finish the task (about +1h ~15min). I find that this payment structure is less hassle and ends up being equivalent to $45-$60 per hour - not including driving.
I also ask for payment before each session to prevent any awkward situations/ delays.
I accept any payment other than credit cards, and prefer cash for the first session.
Tutoring Approach:
Every student is different, if I have to choreograph a dance routine to teach you or your child mathematical functions, I'll do it.
Mostly, I aid students with homework and studying for exams in the traditional sense. However, I am very sensitive to students needs/learning styles, and have passed on dance routines to teach math equations.
When students are interested, I enjoy assigning projects to deepen understanding. Most are basic extensions, however I have with my students fixed TV's, earbuds, phones, RC cars, planes and boats.

Thank you, Matthew, for giving our daughter confidence in her studies!
Tara (Lauren) Vieira
He is always on time for sessions.
I'm glad he now sees math as a fun challenge!
I wish you all the best at university!
Matthew was very professional yet relatable for Taylor, and we look forward to working with him in the coming weeks.
I look forward to helping Taylor.
I'm thinking of scaffolding her learning by building her confidence with math so she can then attempt the more difficult exercises.
