Personal Description:
Hello Everyone,
I live in Williams Lake and work as a social science researcher. I have an office, a fancy desk and get paid to read and write. When I was in school I tested in the 100th percentile for Math. I started my Bachelor's in Computer Science and Math, but switched into Sociology. Ultimately, I graduated with a Master's in Anthropology.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been tutoring since as long as I can remember. I have helped students learn to read, to speak English, to get through their PhD and to get through high school. I currently tutor Math and English in Williams Lake at the gr. 10 level. In my profile you can see other subjects that I'm comfortable tutoring. As a Master's student, I co-hosted a Model UN Security Council for high school students, and worked as both a research Assistant for the current Canadian Research Chair in Science and Society and a Teaching Assistant for countless university courses. Outside of school, I have edited documents for members of the Royal Court and taught Chinese poetry to a Chinese community organization. I can teach people how to reach a high-level in their subject of choice.
Not only am I highly qualified as a teacher, but I have a nuanced understanding of the school system as a whole. Both of my parents work in schools. As well, I have volunteered for and been elected for several positions within my student government.
Tutoring Approach:
My main goal is to stay organized and get good grades. Often, that means doing whatever the course requires and adapting as needed. However, I provide a much needed background to the subjects covered in my lessons that makes every lesson easier as we go. Though I would say that I'm teaching "how to learn," it's more accurate to say that I am making sure that students' intuition is spot on and developing beyond their current grade level. I can save students years of study by giving them the best resources, making the all important connections that they just don't show you in school and by showing them over and over that they can get where they need to go.
If students ever want to prepare for university, I know all the tips and tricks to get them set up and MAKING MONEY throughout their academic career!!!
