Personal Description:
I am an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma diploma graduate with a passion for language and education. Teaching for me has always been an enlightening experience, where I realize that I learn from teaching just as much as my tutees learn from me.
I am studying at Yale-NUS College, a collaboration between Yale University and the National University of Singapore as the first liberal arts college in Singapore and one of the few in Asia. Yale-NUS has an overall acceptance rate of 3-7%, making it one of the most competitive colleges in the world and is known for its rigorous Common Curriculum and unique situation as a liberal arts college in Asia.
I am fully proficient in French and have experienced the struggles of language acquisition, giving me opportunity and know-how in teaching from my own learning experience. I studied the highest FLS course available at the Cégep de Jonquière's French studies program with experience tutoring elementary and intermediate students in the same immersion program.
Tutoring Experience:
Several years of experience tutoring: elementary and high school English, Mathematics, French, Sciences, Music, RCM theory (rudiments, history, harmony) I've worked with students in enriched classes (pre-IB, IB, AP), regular stream, and applied courses as well as with students with special needs.
I also served as the training and curriculum director for L.I.G.H.T. 2.0, a fellowship programme aimed at youth in York Region to develop advocacy, social awareness, and critical 21st-century skills.
Tutoring Approach:
From beginning sentence structures to full-fledged essay writing or simple patterns to integral calculus, I believe in a personalized and structured approach to learning with the mentality that students need to be accountable for their own successes and needs. While tutoring sessions for different subjects and for different students will be different, a typical session will consist of a review of the previous session's content, an introduction and practice with additional/new content, and time for review of any relevant topics.
