Information About Mark
Burlington tutorPersonal Description:
I graduated with my Honours Bachelor of Music from Wilfrid Laurier University, and got certified in Ontario to teach. I have been employed and teaching secondary school music in an Ontario school board since 2013, while performing in multiple concert bands and jazz big bands as a member and substitute player. I also currently direct a concert band and jazz band, and assistant conduct for a local wind orchestra while teaching privately on the side.
Tutoring Experience:
My teaching experience spans nearly all ages (4 years to 65 years old) in both private and classroom settings. I teach primarily saxophone, guitar and run ensembles with a focus on building teamwork and live performance etiquette. Due to my success in coaching individuals and groups I have been requested as an adjudicator at different competitions as well! I also have success in coaching students through their Royal Conservatory exams, university auditions, and ensemble auditions.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tutoring is very personalized, as a student I had teachers that believed in the "one size fits all" teaching method which didn't always work with me. Because of this I strive to find what works with each student and construct each lesson to involve their unique way of learning. I strive to achieve a friendly, light-hearted, humorous approach while still tackling everything required to be a proficient musician.
