Personal Description:
Hi! My name is Mark and I recently moved to Cornwall from England, where I am from, with my wife (who is from here), daughter and dog. My hobbies include playing guitar, skiing (which I hope to do much more of now that I am here!) and playing/watching soccer (or football, as we call it back home). In addition to all of that, my daughter has also forced me to become a fan of Peppa Pig; I'm still not sure how I feel about that. I should also mention that although I am by no means fluent, I speak French at an intermedia**Contact Detail Removed**vel, so can offer it for tutoring at a beginner level.
Tutoring Experience:
I qualified as a secondary school teacher back in 2006, then worked for two years in a secondary school in London, UK, teaching Sociology, History, Religious Studies and Citizenship. In my second year I was the head of the Sociology department. I then moved to Canada and worked for the Cree School Board in Quebec for almost a year, teaching pretty much everything to a group of troubled secondary aged students in a special facility. I then spent two years in an International School in Bangkok, Thailand, teaching English as a Second Language, before moving back to the UK to teach English and Media Studies in a specialist school for children with difficulties such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorders and Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. In addition to being the Head of English, during my last year at the school I was also a Special Educational Needs Coordinator. Since arriving in Cornwall, I have worked in Tagwi Secondary School and Cornwall Collegiate and Vocational School covering all kinds of lessons for various age groups, including quite a bit of Science - it looks like Science teachers are in short supply!
In addition to my school experience, I have privately tutored several students in the UK and Thailand in English, Religious Studies and English as a Second Language.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach is simple: whatever works for you, works for me. If you are a visual learner who needs lots of videos and pictures to help you, then I've got that covered. If you work best when you can move around, that's also fine. If, however, you prefer sitting down and using books, we can do that.
