Personal Description:

Hi there, my name is Mandy! I love photography, reading and spending time with my family and friends. My favourite place to be is anywhere that surrounds me in nature. I have a great passion for learning that drives me to share it with others. I graduated high school in 2018 and I am currently studying theology in university.

Tutoring Experience:

In my spare time at university, I am often the friend offering to edit papers. However, my tutoring/teaching experience first began in my junior year of high school when I was given the opportunity to peer tutor/teach a grade nine French class. I guided the students in their work and graded their homework. I was also able to teach a class to the students. My most recent teaching experience has been during the pandemic. Due to the stay-at-home orders my youngest brother was forced to learn second grade from home. For many months I had the opportunity to teach him his schooling and go through his lessons with him.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is one that seeks to help students understand. While doing online school this semester I relished how easy it could for one to breeze through the material and not truly understand what is being taught. This remains true for students of the elementary school and high school age groups. My greatest hope in this time is for children and teenagers to understand what is being taught to them so that they may apply the lessons being learned to their daily lives. Although online classes may be fast paced and not always effective in communicating, my goal is to slow the process down so that those learning can grasp on to what is being taught. Application is key, and I would like to provide students with the opportunities to apply their learning.
