Information About Lori
Charlottetown tutorPersonal Description:
I have a Bachelors degree from Memorial University in Social Sciences and Cultural Studies. I am a mature woman who has also raised two sons as I attended university. The skills that professionals have identified in me are that I am articulate, I am easily able to break something complicated down into explanations more easy to understand in a short period of time. I am patient and reliable.
Tutoring Experience:
I have a long history of volunteering with children of all ages in organizations from summer camps to Guides and scouts Canada. I assisted with adult tutoring while I attended university at the Employment Centre in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, during the Spring of 2005.
Tutoring Approach:
Clarify with parents, teachers and the Board of Education what the student has to achieve for the school year, where the challenges seem to be most, and a special understanding of what the student feels most confident with and what their strengths are. When Their strengths and interests are known, these can be used in connection with the learning tools used to help the student feel a connection to what they are learning. It also helps to understand what the student desires to become and where this subject lies in their plans. Is this subject disliked but a necessary evil? Is this something they desire but feel stuck in one area? Have they had difficulty in earlier grades and maybe are missing some earlier fundamentals to make the connections at this level? These things need to be understood. I will try to set the goals needed in the time required with the most ease possible.
