Personal Description:

Hi! I'm Lauren and I'm a private tutor based in Hamilton, Ontario but since switching to online learning, I help students all over the country. I love teaching one on one because I get to connect to students on a more meaningful level and help them achieve their goals. Aside from teaching, my interests are in visual arts, ancient history, languages, and creative writing.

Tutoring Experience:

I've been a tutor for over five years helping students from Grade 6-12 with their studies in English. This includes working with ESL students at various learning levels as well as English fluent speakers. I help my students in all areas of English from reading comprehension to literary analysis, basic writing skills including grammar and mechanics up to university level essay writing, speaking for conversation, presentations, or IELTS exams, and finally building stronger listening skills for academic achievement (following instructions, following lectures) but also personal development (social skills, interpersonal skills, etc).

Tutoring Approach:

My tutoring style is very unique because I tailor-make all my lesson plans and units according to each of my students' learning needs and their respective academic goals. At the same time, my style is also goal oriented and focused on teaching personal development skills for success in and out of the classroom. This means involving my students to consider resourcefulness, responsibility, self-awareness and self-reflection on what they are learning, where they want to end up, and what steps they need to take in order to achieve that goal.
