Personal Description:
I am a second year French major at The University of The Fraser Valley. My goal as an aspiring French/ELL teacher is to help middle-high school aged students find joy in learning another language, especially French! I was enrolled in the late French Immersion program in Grade 6 and have been improving my fluency since. I completed my DELF in Grade 11 and aim to take it again. I have diagnosed ADHD so I know what it feels like to be a neurodiverse student in a neurotypical world. I dedicate my time to researching various study strategies that will help regulate and focus the brain.
Tutoring Experience:
I started tutoring French in Grade 9 at a rate of $15 an hour for a Grade 1 French Immersion student. I peer tutored in multiple subjects to boost my volunteering experience. As an AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) student, I was given many opportunities to mentor younger students. In Grade 12 I volunteered part-time at Parkside Elementary for Grades 3-5. I coached soccer for kids aged 3-4 years old. I am currently enrolled in two education courses in my university.
Tutoring Approach:
Audience: My lessons are for any student enrolled in a core French or French immersion course.
Outline: Our session will begin with a brief refresher of what we did together last time. This will ease the student into the session, allow them to prepare their brain for further instruction. Then, we go over the assigned material. Before we go over what was taught, it is important to ask how the student felt about the lesson and if there are any confusions or clarifications. Communication is key to a productive session!
Once we have addressed our area of improvement/confusion, we will dedicate our session to better understanding the concept. Once we feel comfortable, we finish the assigned material, create some practice questions/scenarios, and learn a new concept to share with the class if time permits!
What sets me apart: I believe in brain breaks, interest based learning, and flexibility. I am a student with ADHD and I know what it's like to feel behind or scattered sometimes.
