Personal Description:
Hi! II'm Lara and I'm super passionate about teaching and providing personalized support to my students. I have had careers in advertising, interior design and education all of which have contributed to my teaching philosophy and style. I'm currently an occasional teacher with the PDSB and an Arts educator.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been teaching for the past 10 years to students of Grade 4-12 in private and public education. Tutoring elementary students in Science, Art, LA, Geography and ESL. I've also tutored secondary students in the development of portfolios for university applications, helping many enter their programs of choice.
Tutoring Approach:
I'm very flexible and can adapt to any issues or challenges the student faces. For Visual Arts, I mainly focus on the creative process and helping students feel confident in their creative abilities, traditional methods i.e. drawing, painting etc aren't the only ways you can create Art! Once we get comfortable with the creative process, we focus on skills and techniques, theory and history.
As for academic subjects, my goal is to help the student build self confidence in their abilities. I don't like hearing "I can't", with time, patience and hard work "you can"!
I only do one-one sessions preferably at libraries or students home depending on the subject.
