Personal Description:
Hi there! I have worked with students for 5 years as an Educational Assistant, and have over 10 years of childcare experience. I have a diploma in 'Educational Assistant: Special Needs Support' at Niagara College. Secondly, I am a graduate of Mohawk College's Post-Graduate Certification Program, 'Accessible Media Production'. This December, I will also be receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology at the University of Waterloo. I am passionate about accessibility and inclusion for individuals with disabilities, and supporting students of all abilities in gaining confidence and independence. I am also a creative person who enjoys music and art. In my spare time, I also enjoy walks in my neighbourhood, yoga, cooking, and growing plants.
Tutoring Experience:
As an Educational Assistant, I have learned how to support students with their schoolwork in an engaging way. In my position, I am required to think creatively and adapt my teaching approach to suit the learning needs of each student. I have supported students with learning disabilities, with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and with various other exceptionalities. I also have experience tutoring a student in grade 12 with Cerebral Palsy.
Tutoring Approach:
I think that one-on-one support and encouragement are hugely important. I am passionate about supporting students in gaining confidence, developing new skills and strategies, and learning new information. I support students with a positive, enthusiastic, and patient approach.
