Personal Description:
I am, myself, a lifelong learner. This mindset also allows me to relate to my students and share my own experiences and love for learning, which can inspire and encourage them to pursue their own educational journeys.
My strengths of flexibility and motivational skills are highly valuable in the teaching profession. Being able to adapt to different learning styles, pace, and individual needs allows me to create a dynamic and engaging learning environment.
My personal interests are playing the piano, reading, solving riddles, sketching, rollerblading, cycling, and learning languages like French and Chinese. My passion for both teaching and learning resonate with my students and inspire them to explore, discover and go ahead.
Tutoring Experience:
Spanish
I've been tutoring since 2016 after I left one of language centers in Russia, where I taught Spanish in accordance to their methodology.
I started providing individual classes for both adults and children. My areas of expertise include overcoming language barriers, improving grammar, activating vocabulary, building communication skills, and exam preparation.
Since I've always loved Math, in 2020 I started Math as well. Now I help to catch up with the Canadian Curriculum, and prepare for entrance exams. I provide guidance and practice for standardized tests, such as EQAO, SAT, Waterloo Math contest or ACT Math sections, to help students achieve their desired scores.
Tutoring Approach:
Some people think they can’t learn a foreign language or they are not smart enough to excel at Math. I believe it's a wrong stereotype. I see my purpose as a tutor as providing the right strategy and materials, which are tailored for the student keeping in mind his or her particular needs.
****Math
Math can be perceived as hard due to its abstract nature, cumulative concepts, and the perception of fixed rules. However, with the right support, practice, and a growth mindset, anyone can prosper.
I emphasize problem-solving strategies and critical thinking skills, enabling students to tackle challenging Math problems with confidence and logical reasoning.
Certain topics can be difficult for students. I break down complex concepts into smaller, more manageable parts and give real life examples to comprehend these notions. I don’t provide off-the-shelf formulas, my goal is to help them grasp the underlying principles and logic of math, so they can solve any type of problem, even ones they haven't seen before. Students don’t grow when in their comfort zone, so I ensure they are consistently and appropriately challenged.
I assign homework as a means for students to practice independently and reinforce what they have learned.
****Spanish
Tailored strategies and materials: You prioritize customization by providing students with strategies and materials that are specifically designed to meet their individual needs.
I create personalized study plans and carefully select materials to ensure an enjoyable and effective learning experience for my students. In terms of exam preparation, I not only explain how to solve tasks but also focus on developing time management skills, which are crucial during exams.
The format of my classes depends on the specific needs of each student. Whether it's reviewing challenging topics from the curriculum or expanding knowledge for entry exams, I adapt the lessons accordingly. My strengths lie in being flexible and possessing strong motivational skills. I can connect with students from different backgrounds and guide them towards their goals or help them clarify their needs when they are unsure.
If students are not yet ready to tackle advanced grammar, I help them develop efficient communication skills first, gradually expanding their knowledge as they progress. This practical approach enables students to use the language actively from the beginning.
As homework, I provide exercises, texts, and videos to reinforce learning. In class, we discuss these materials, allowing students to practice new vocabulary and express their ideas. This approach emphasizes practical application and helps students develop language proficiency and critical thinking skills.
