Personal Description:

I'm a fully certified ESL teacher and English tutor. I have a BA in English and a graduate degree in Journalism. In addition, I have taken advanced courses in English grammar, writing and editing/proof reading. I've been tutoring online since the pandemic and have a flexible schedule. Now fully vaccinated and able to tutor in person.

Tutoring Experience:

I have over 10 years of experience teaching and tutoring English and ESL. My specialty is English writing, reading and speaking. I can help with speaking and pronunciation as well.

I have worked with adults, teens and children to improve their English. I have Ontario Curriculum experience as well, and have worked with young students from Gr. 1 - Gr. 12 to improve their English spelling, writing, and reading comprehension. I've taught essay writing and how to develop good homework skills. I've also taught phonics and early English skills for young kids.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very easy going and use communicative techniques for teaching English. I'm very patient, and have helped many students improve their English writing and grammar in order to prepare for the next grade, for university, and also jobs.I have lots of experience working with children and adults.

From Max (2/5): (Secondary English) We had a first meeting arranged, but she abruptly emailed to say that she couldn’t tutor my son after all due to a scheduling conflict. I would have been happy to change the days to accommodate her schedule, but that doesn’t appear to be an option.

Reply from Karen: I apologized to the student and cancelled well in advance of the first meeting. I did not suggest another time due to scheduling issues as stated.

From Paula (4/5): (Casual English) Dear Karen, the website asked me to give you a feedback as the tutoring between us didn't work. I got a little bit disapointed that you gave up teaching me and my husband - but I understand we probably made too many requirements. In our country is normal try to meet (by video call, or anything like this) the professional we are hiring before we "sign the deal". This was not a sign of lack of trust. But I'd like to thank you for all the time you spent answering my questions (very kind and polite all the time). I hope I can get another teacher as good as you seemed to be.
