Personal Description:

Hello! My name is Kalleah and I am a BC certified teacher living in Revelstoke, BC.

I incorporate lessons into students’ imaginative worlds to produce meaningful education. Learning is more than just knowing a fact; learning is about the experience and process of reaching a goal. As a tutor I aim to create an environment where creative habits are enabled and curiosity spurs learning development.

I am passionate about the outdoors and am a life-long learner! While in the past couple of years I have started mountain biking, I have always enjoyed the fly fishing, skiing, and hiking that Revelstoke offers. I value developing and maintaining relationships, whether that be family, community, and/or professional relationships. I also value the desire to learn, whether that be a quick fact check, mastering a hobby, or learning a whole new skill.

~ At the post-secondary level, I implemented the end-to-end design of the Queen's University Athletic Enrichment program and tutored the varsity football team, successfully raising the student-athletes' GPA's.

Bachelor of Education - Queen's University
~ After completing a Bachelor of Education degree with a concentration in Outdoor and Experiential Education and a member of the BC Teacher's Federation, I am vetted as professional qualified to teach children in the primary and junior divisions. Experiential and hands-on learning techniques can create enriched learning experiences that facilitate relevant and creative exploration and demonstration of knowledge.

Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Psychology - Queen's University
~ My degree in psychology predominantly emphasized clinical, developmental, and social psychology, providing me with a profound understanding of the intricacies involved in human behaviour and development. I acquired valuable insights into the cognitive, emotional, and social processes that impact learning experiences. Consequently, I am better equipped to identify and address the diverse needs of learners, thereby promoting a more inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Basics of Decoding & Spelling Instruction - International Dyslexia Association - Ontario
~ Certified to teach basic and complex phonics, spelling, strategies for reading and spelling multi-syllable words, and basic morphology.

Tutoring Approach:

My practice is grounded by meeting the learners where they are at and adjusting my teaching methods to meet their needs. The learning environment provides opportunities to empower learners to be courageous by sharing their thoughts and opinions. Incorporating individual interests and opinions guide unique opportunities for a learners success in mental, physical, emotional, and social facets of life. My ultimate goal as a tutor is to cultivate a sense of confidence and curiosity in students' learning journey, whereby they develop the essential skills they aim to learn.
