Personal Description:
My name is Julia and I am third-year honors double major student studying English and political science. I currently hold an 86 average in my three-year education and hope to continue with my strong grade point average. I am very passionate about my areas of study and enjoy exploring other academic avenues in the social sciences and beyond. I hope to pursue law school once I am done with my undergraduate education but until then, I enjoy extracurriculars such as reading, article writing for independent sources, and spending time with friends and family.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been tutoring for about 4 years now. I had always enjoyed helping my friends with their school work in high school and I have built a small network of clients that I help regularly. I feel that this time has enabled me to understand how to best tutor students in the areas of English and writing skills, as well as law and politics as those, are my two other areas of study. In addition to tutoring experience, I have spent time volunteering in classrooms, specifically with special education and ESL students. This has taught me how to interact with students in an academic setting as well as gave me insight into the profession of teaching. Finally, I have years of childcare experience which enables me to work well with kids and ensure a safe and welcoming learning environment.
Tutoring Approach:
In my approach to tutoring, I understand that every student is different which means that every learning style is different; Thus, I adapt my style of tutoring to best fit each student. Also, I think it is very important to listen to and understand what the children are learning in class to ensure that my help with their studies is complementary to what they are focusing on in the classroom. I think it is important that I collaborate with my students and brainstorm together what would be the best-suited learning plan for them. Taking a collaborative and open-minded view on the direction of their studies is an integral aspect of my approach to tutoring. Additionally, I focus on creating an optimistic and positive environment that reminds students of the importance of putting their best foot forward. I focus on growth as a key defining aspect of my tutoring process, as I believe that with more practice and attention to detail my students can achieve whatever they put their minds to!
