Information About Jordan
Summerland tutorPersonal Description:
I am a Research Technician that currently works in a Genomics Lab. I grew up in a very small town in British Columbia with a very underfunded school I feel that it's very important that people get the opportunity to get the education, skills ,and experience that they want. I originally went to University to study Physics or Biology, but ended taking an introductory class to Biochemistry and Microbiology, which really changed my view on what I wanted to study. I completed my Bachelors degree in Biochemistry and most of my electives were filled taking Microbiology courses as I felt the two disciplines go hand in hand.
I really do enjoy science and hope I can help inspire others to find the same passion that I found.
Tutoring Experience:
Most recently, I have gained a fair amount of teaching experience at the Research Centre that work at. I have worked there for 5 years now and have been responsible for teaching/training CO-OP students over a very wide range of techniques. These things range from collecting samples in the field to performing more advanced Molecular Biology techniques like droplet-digital PCR. During University I did volunteer at the university help centres, mostly to help out people I knew, especially when they were swamped during times like midterms.
Tutoring Approach:
There is no one size fits all approach to Tutoring or Teaching. My approach is to work with you and figure out what works best on an individual basis. For the vast majority of subjects there are a great many ways of approaching the topic, that's one of the reasons why it can be so difficult to learn a topic! I personally prefer a hands on learning approach where you get the opportunity to apply what you've learned to solve problems. Everyone is different though so don't be afraid to ask questions or let me know if you don't think things are working out!
