Personal Description:
I am an advocate for the growth mindset which proposes that intelligence is not a fixed or an intrinsic ability but can be developed and improved with hard work. Tutors can help cultivate this mindset with patience and encouragement. As a high school student, I almost failed physics but went on to obtain degrees specializing in it; I have been a struggling student before and am able to bring this perspective into my sessions as a physics tutor.
Tutoring Experience:
I completed a bachelor's degree specializing in Physics. I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Physics and am working on experimental particle physics. I have worked as a volunteer tutor and as a teaching assistant for Astronomy I and II, a teaching assistant for Quantum Physics I and II, and an Academic Resource Center tutor.
Tutoring Approach:
I strive to inculcate the growth mindset in my students as it has been shown that this helps students perform better. I start by getting to know each student, their learning style, as well as their level of study and ability. I also like to give students real-world examples they can relate to, which is particularly helpful for physics.
