Personal Description:
Hello! I am a mechanical engineering graduate from Queen's University and my goal is to help you learn in the most practical and engaging way as possible. From my mechanical engineering background and from the courses I have taken in high school, I am well versed in the subjects of mathematics, physics, chemistry, and I have a curious mind for science in general. As someone who did not have academic success come naturally and had to work very hard to achieve it, I understand the value of personalized learning and making learning accessible. While learning can be difficult, I know how extremely rewarding it can be which is why I want to guide you through it according to your learning style and with patience, understanding, and positivity.
Tutoring Experience:
In my grade 11 and 12 years, I tutored several students in lower grades, where I was referred to them by a guidance counsellor. I tutored 2-3 students per semester and met with them on an as-needed basis to evaluate their progress and provide academic assistance mostly in the subjects of mathematics and sciences. This is in addition to my peers that I casually tutored.
Previous to that experience, I volunteered as a Sunday School teacher for 3 years for children ages 8-10. This included meeting with them every week to lead a lesson about a topic and having an open discussion, where children were free to ask questions and provide their input on the subject. During these 3 years, I built strong mentorship with the children I was teaching and maintained a line of communication with parents about their child's progress.
Tutoring Approach:
To me it is very important to understand the student's strengths and weaknesses to tailor learning strategies that will work for them. This means paying close attention to their learning patterns and attitude towards learning. It is one of my top priorities to make learning interesting and engaging, which means not only teaching the concepts but to also communicate how they can be applied practically using real world analogies and applications. I believe everyone has the capacity to succeed when given the right tools, which is why it is important to me to try multiple learning strategies and maintain a positive learning environment to keep the student motivated.
