Information About Jocelyn
Hamilton tutorPersonal Description:
Hi there! I am an undergraduate Biomedical Engineering student at Columbia University in the City of New York, an Ivy League university. While I am studying to be an engineer and pursuing a future career in medicine, I also enjoy my humanities classes, particularly English and History. I enjoy helping my peers learn in study groups and tutoring students any age from elementary school to adult.
Tutoring Experience:
At school, I volunteer to teach math and English to middle and high school students in the local area. I also helped my peers in high school prepare for the Chemistry Olympiad exam.
Tutoring Approach:
Math/Science: I like to teach using a problem solving approach. First I explain the concepts behind a topic, guide the student through an example problem, and then encourage them to solve a couple similar problems on their own with my support when they need it.
English: I like to teach English by improving reading, writing, and speaking skills. For younger students, I like to read and discuss books with them, and then assign short writing exercises about the reading after class. For older students, I expect my students to have done some reading before class and write about it. Discussion about the reading will take place in class.
