Personal Description:

My name is Jocelyn and I am an aspiring teacher. I will be starting my Bachelor of Education Degree at Nipissing University in September 2020. I have just recently completed my undergraduate degree at Queen's University in Health Studies and Religious Studies. My interest in community health and passion for working with youth is paired with my well-established leadership abilities.

Tutoring Experience:

I have done a wide range of teaching and tutoring. In high school I was an English as a Second Language tutor for four years both at my high school and within the community. I was also apart of the Cooperative Education Program where I worked in a grade one class for five months . I was responsible for lesson planning and help teach the material to students. I also worked with students who were struggling with different aspects of the curriculum and engaged in math, reading, writing, and science tasks with students one on one throughout the term. I have also worked with a number of different families to tutor children typically between the ages of 5-16.

Tutoring Approach:

I approach tutoring by coming to sessions prepared with the material that the student has been learning within the classroom. My goal is always to let the student demonstrate to me the material they know and then work alongside them to learn and explain the material they are struggling with. I always encourage the student to show me what the understand in order to help build confidence before tackling new concepts. My goal while tutoring is to create a positive learning environment for the student and to ensure they feel confident to confide in me with any struggles they may be facing with there academics.
