Personal Description:
I am currently a Post-doctoral fellow at McGill - but have always enjoyed teaching! During my PhD, I worked as a sessional instructor, teaching assistant (Psychology, Neuroscience and Statistics) and as a tutor ( for English and ESL). I currently live in Montreal, but was in Calgary for 5 years before that and Scotland for 7 years before that. In my spare time I enjoy reading, painting, baking and the gym.
Tutoring Experience:
I have taught university level neuroscience, psychology and statistics courses. I also have extensive experience with English language tutoring for both native and ESL speakers. I have dealt with both the conversational and written aspects of the language (and within this for both academic and general writing)
Tutoring Approach:
Generally I find the most value in teaching interactively, with old school chalk talks, supplemented by a few slides. This, I feel, allows me to modify the speed, the volume of content and kind of content, depending on the student's needs. My goal is to make learning the subject as enjoyable as possible in an efficient manner, and working with students to find the method that works best for them. I aim to provide a comfortable learning environment, where the student feels no pressure in terms of time or amount of work. I believe that we all have our own way of learning and I aim to individualize the material for each student as much as I can.
