Personal Description:

I received my Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree with a major in English Language and Literature from Queen's University in 2013 and my Bachelor of Education Degree from University of Ottawa in 2014.

I have a deep passion for teaching English and engaging with students in order to help them better their skills and performance in the subject.

Growing up and going through the school system in Kingston, I have a great understanding of the Ontario Curriculum and the texts that are most commonly taught in English classes in high school.

Tutoring Experience:

I have spent the last five years teaching English at the high school level in the UK. This has allowed me to deepen my ability to teach both Language and Literature. Language focuses include an emphasis on grammar and structure, as well as how to analyse the way the writers use grammar, structure and language in depth. Literature focuses include analysis of themes and genre, as well as developing an understanding of the text being studied.

Through my Bachelor of Education degree, I also have experience from my practicums in teaching the Ontario Curriculum, including teaching creative writing.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that tutoring needs to be a collaborative approach between the tutor, student and parents. It is important to get to know the students and what specific areas they need help in. I can adapt my tutoring style based on the needs of the student and what they are currently studying in class. It is important that the tutoring focuses on the areas the students wishes to improve, rather than just having a repeat of the information that may have been presented to them in class.
