Personal Description:
Professional free-lance tutor specializing in creative and academic English, literary analysis, research & study skills, and history, geography and politics. I believe that all students are capable of success, even if they themselves dont think so. I take an inductive approach to education, where we look at your abilities, weaknesses, and goals, and come up with an intuitive and positive plan to improve them together. I am focused but flexible, trying to keep pressure as light as possible while still allowing us to achieve our aims.
Tutoring Experience:
Casual work in tutoring and editing during my time in University, 6 months free-lance tutoring on my own.
Experience tutoring with ESL students, adult students, young children with ADHD.
Two bursaries for high academic achievement at U of Manitoba, 4.0 GPA at graduation, BA in Political Studies w/ Minor in English. I had pieces published in the University creative writing anthology as well as its music publication.
I have worked as a researcher and analyst for a local independent investment group, and wrote ad copy for a local independent business.
I have also been hosting a progressive music show on 95.9 FM CKUW every Saturday for 4 years, and have conducted numerous interviews.
Tutoring Approach:
Identify your strengths and weaknesses, create a plan based on your expectations and needs and have fun (if you want to)! I believe in keeping a positive attitude and remaining flexible and focused our goals. The student should always feel like they are an equal partner in the process and that they can succeed on their terms.
