Information About Jeremy
Fredericton tutorPersonal Description:
I've been a Science and Math teacher for 15 years, teaching in public and private schools in two different provinces. My undergrad degree was in biophysics and biochemistry. I recently completed my Masters thesis on inclusive education in science courses.
Tutoring Experience:
I have experience as both a tutor and a teacher. Currently I have a role as a mentor/lead in our school district to help fellow science teachers develop new and interesting activities and labs. I find that the best teaching practices reflect good tutoring practices - one on one interactions! I always lament my inability to connect with my students more often one-on-one because of a busy class schedule. Tutoring allows for that opportunity!
Tutoring Approach:
I believe the best tutors listen to what there students need first. I don't like to just reteach materials, but rather have the chance to hear what students understand first, and tease out where the misunderstandings are. I think probing students knowledge through effective questioning gets to the root of the issue, and maximizes the chance of retention.
