Personal Description:
Hi! My name is Jeffrie and I'm a first-year History major at UC Berkeley. I'm a diligent student and I love helping other students learn and get better at subjects they're struggling with. I, in particular, love the social sciences like history and political science. I have also taken courses at Harvard and Stanford on world history and American politics. If you're an AP student in high school, I also have a significant amount of experience with taking APs as I've received scores of 5 on numerous social science APs like US History. I also earned 1550 on the SAT, so I would be happy to share my knowledge of the SAT or in general the American college admissions process if needed!
Tutoring Experience:
I was a very active tutor during high school, and I tutored many classmates over four years in numerous subjects. I tutored most of my students in history (US history, World history). I taught many of my peers how to improve as essay writers, understand historical trends better, and become better analytical thinkers. I have also tutored underprivileged children outside of school in learning how to read and write as part of a service organization, so I have experience teaching children.
Tutoring Approach:
Tutoring should always be fun and engaging for the student. Whenever I'm tutoring someone, while I always emphasize learning the content, I also stress how they can use the skills they learn and apply their new knowledge. Learning is not just being told something, but also thinking for yourself and doing critical thinking as I believe that's where the real learning comes in. For example, when I'm helping someone improve their essay, it's not just a matter of me telling them what to do, but guiding them in the direction of what changes could be made, asking them questions about their line of thinking, teaching them skills, and ultimately allowing them to decide for themselves what to change in the essay. They learn new material, apply it, and ultimately remember their learning and become better students.
