Information About Jeff
Kelowna tutorPersonal Description:
Hi, I'm Jeff, currently doing my Engineering degree at UBC. I've participated in Taiwan Olympiad of Informatics and got into the national training phase, which out of all participants(about 3000 among Taiwan), 40 were enrolled. Proficient in algorithms for competitive programming and C++. Also did Chinese High School Entrance Exam and got 139/150 in math. A+ (mostly high 90s to full marks) in first year linear algebra, physics, and calculus in university. Really love soccer and snowboarding. Trying to do tutoring because I love the time sharing knowledge to students. Teaching also helps me to realize some interesting points in the science field, giving me more inspiration in researches.
Tutoring Experience:
Did peer teaching when I was back in Taiwan. I got admitted to one of the best secondary schools in Taiwan, and receive a relatively challenging education in STEM discipline. I taught students in the same grades, whom met problems in solving questions and doing exams. I integrate my notes and modify them into different packages to allow all students to understand the concepts and further apply them in questions and exams. Never did paid-tutoring but I'm really passionate about teaching, and found that I enjoy the time sharing knowledge with others.
Tutoring Approach:
I made different materials to allow my students understand the concepts thoroughly and easily. I've always seen students considering themselves understanding a specific concept completely but still can't get a decent mark in the exams. This is mainly because in normal education systems, lack "systematic concept building" steps, which students can seldom connect the ideas together. I aim to let my students realize these points, so they can actually apply the things they learned, which is hard but definitely helpful to there exams, grades, and systematic thinking skills.
