Personal Description:

I am pleased to put forth my name as an applicant for a tutor with First Tutors Canada. With many years of experience as a tutor, Occasional Teacher (including LTO positions), contrac**Contact Detail Removed**mentary teacher and continued professional learning and development, I am confident in my abilities, as well as my passion for teaching and learning, that I will be a valuable asset to your organization.

My commitment to teaching has been demonstrated in the ways in which I seek to empower students to realize their best potential. My experiences and opportunities from school has taught me the importance of being resilient and persevering through difficult challenges that I want to instill for every learner. I have a strong passion to educate young minds and help them develop into responsible, successful, independent learners, as well as providing all students with a high quality education and extra-curricular opportunities. Throughout the course of my career, I have had wonderful opportunities to teach diverse groups of students, including those of different cultures, learning exceptionalities and those who perform at different grade levels. I appreciate the diversity within schools, classrooms and surrounding communities. As a result, I have become proficient at backward designing creative and interactive learning opportunities that utilize researched based instructional strategies such as differentiate instruction, multiple intelligences, the gradual release of responsibility, social constructivism, multiculturalism, balanced programming and cross-curricular integration to name a few. This approach has made me more effective in implementing the understanding of how each student and community adds depth and dimension to the learning experiences in every classroom. The unique needs of all students has helped me to constantly refine my perspectives and approaches to teaching. Also, furthering my education and professional development by successfully completing numerous additional qualifications (learning through inquiry and research) has better prepared me for teaching and significantly enhanced my overall teaching/instructional practices. I am committed to provide learners with an engaging, inclusive, positive learning environment that addresses both their needs and interests. I am advocate for student mental health and student well-being ensuring that they are in the best position to learn and be successful. I foster a growth mindset for students across all curricular subjects and emphasize the need to develop a mindset of perseverance and to evolve their intelligence for student achievement. I ensure that students are learning in a modern learning environment that incorporates open end tasks, use of technology/devices to enhance learning, authentic/deep learning experiences, vision and skills that reflects and prepares them for the real world. My commitment to teaching and learning aligns with First Tutors Canada's priorities in that I believe that students learn best when they believe/know they can and when they are offered dynamic learning opportunities that are both challenging and rewarding. Everyone is capable of learning.

In addition, I inspire and motivate students to learn. I actively engage their eager minds by implementing the use of manipulatives, meaningful activities, inquiry, rich tasks and cooperative learning opportunities. I tailor lesson plans, not only to meet students’ needs and interests, but to enable students to make direct connections between the classroom and everyday life situations. Furthermore, I would provide parent involvement with their child’s education by holding parent-teacher conferences on a regular basis and other means of continuous communication or opportunities to promote their participation in the educational process, as well as reinforcing education at home to boost students’ self-confidence and self-esteem.
