Information About Jakob
Halifax tutorPersonal Description:
I am a first year student at Saint Mary's University, pursuing a dual-honors degree in mathematics and astrophysics. I graduated from my secondary education with a 98% average among my classes (three of which were AP courses, that followed university level curriculum), and currently have a 4.30 GPA in my university courses. In addition to my schooling, I am very passionate about student leadership, and during my grade 12 year of high school I was one of my school's co-presidents, in charge of the Students' Council. While I am moving through my degree, I thought it would be great experience to tutor, not only because I eventually want to become a university professor, but because I enjoy teaching and helping others learn in general!
Tutoring Experience:
Through both High School & currently in university, I was/am the leader of study groups with many of my close friends. The main reason I offer to lead study groups is simply out of the enjoyment of teaching! In the future it is my goal to become a university professor, not only because I personally enjoy the concepts of math and physics so much, but because I love helping people learn and come to appreciate the subjects that interest me the most. While I do not have any tutoring experience in any official capacity, I have great experience with all of the high school math curriculum, and for years have been helping teach it to friends so that they too can succeed! I am also the eldest of four and have been helping my younger siblings with their learning, something I have enjoyed very much.
Tutoring Approach:
In my opinion, learning should be engaging! The reason I am so passionate about my own schooling, is because of the amazing and passionate teachers that over the course of my childhood have shown me the joy of both being a learner, and in being a teacher. Nobody enjoys monotone lecturers and boring power-points, and in my eyes learning should be something that happens from one-to-another as equals. By being friendly and by genuinely caring is where I feel a teacher can empower a student to learn best, and when a student cares about both a teacher and by proxy about the subject, then that's when they will start to learn!
