Information About Jacob
Squamish tutorPersonal Description:
I am a 4th-year math education student at Quest University Canada. I focus on designing pedagogical techniques to help students with academic anxieties, especially in mathematics. I believe in the ability of every person to understand, enjoy, and excel in quantitative disciplines, and I want to share that confidence with those I tutor. I also have experience as a camp counsellor, which enables me to build lasting bonds with students, even over brief interactions.
Tutoring Experience:
I have 3 years of tutoring experience at Quest University Canada as a Peer Tutor in Quantitative Reasoning (math, science, and statistics). I also volunteered as a Teaching Assistant for a remedial mathematics course at the university, working on an individual and small-group basis with a number of highly math-anxious students.
Tutoring Approach:
I focus heavily on attitude and base concept learning. If students have a will to learn and understand the fundamental ideas at work in a problem, they will be empowered to solve it themselves, rather than given a rote solution or algorithm. This strategy allows students to be flexible and creative when encountering new challenges, as well as builds resilience when a solution does not appear immediately.
