Personal Description:

I am a student at Little Flower Academy in Vancouver. I have participated in peer tutoring to aid those of my age and younger with both math and English. I have achieved honour roll for the years I have been in LFA as well, my two highest marks being math and English. I enjoy working with children and have a friendly approach to teaching. I have had a lot of experience and have a deep understanding of concepts and their applications.

Tutoring Experience:

Teaching has always been something I have really loved and my experience reflects that. I have volunteered at my local library to help children from ages 5-10 improve their reading and writing skills. My experience also extends to school. I have tutored many of my peers and those in elementary and high school. In these courses, I have needed to put extra emphasis on making learning fun and hands-on. These skills are reflected through my tutoring.
Being a student myself, I am able to absorb and give information in an understandable manner and give aid to develop better critical thinking and problem solving abilities. I am able to relate and have a better understanding of my students and help them benefit from my teaching.

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer to teach students understanding and analysis rather than pure memorization. I have found that one can indeed memorize hundreds of terms but are yet able to apply that in real life situations. Within the classroom, teachers often give formulas and equations to solve a problem, but with deeper understanding, you can easily use those skills and apply them to any situation. I also give real life applications of the concepts being taught so students understand the relevance and importance of these skills and how it will be beneficial to their lives currently and in the future. This technique has worked exceptionally well for me in the past and has allowed me to receive many awards and scholarships at my school and aid those to improve throughout the school year.
Since I am a student as well, I am able to empathize with others and cater to other students to their learning capabilities. I offer a very friendly and open atmosphere where students can be comfortable with asking any questions and find the true value of knowledge on their fingertips.
