Personal Description:
I have a Master's in Math and a PhD in Math Education. I was a tenured professor at the University of Toronto. I have taught math from Gr 7-10 in the classroom, and tutored students at all levels up to and including university-level math.
When I teach, I listen carefully to how students reason about math so that I can guide them to the next level. I also pay as much attention to mindset as I do to the mathematical thinking. Everyone can learn and understand math, and I help students see how smart and capable they already are.
I'm also an artist, a writer, and a musician.
Tutoring Experience:
12 years at the University of Toronto teaching mathematics teachers about how to teach
teaching certification in California for middle school and high school math
tutoring from about Gr 6 to university-level math
I'm also a writing and productivity coach and can help with time management, and developing effective habits.
Tutoring Approach:
I listen first, explain later. It's important for students to express their thinking in mathematics. I ask a lot of questions and use drawings, graphs, and other representations to make sure students understand how and why things work.
