Personal Description:
My favorite topics to tutor are writing and reading. As a writing tutor, I focus on helping students compose well-structured, cogent essays that bring a distinct voice to the fore. As a reading tutor, I share strategies to help students improve their retention rate even if they're reading dense passages. Either way, I find that the nuanced relationship between tutor and pupil is more fruitful than traditional instruction.
Tutoring Experience:
I spent two years working with talented high school students who lacked access to the socioeconomic resources to pursue a college education. I've also volunteered to cultivate a genuine interest in reading and writing among both high-achievers and hard-workers who were struggling in school. Collectively, these experiences have shown me that an English tutor has to be flexible and put the student's needs first.
Tutoring Approach:
I care that you have that exam on Friday and we can study for it together. However, I believe that the processes that go into studying are more important than the results of any individual assessment.
