Personal Description:
Hi: My first name is Harold and I am a native German born in Heidelberg. I attended Public and High School in Germany until my parents decided to emigrate to Canada. My father, Editor in Chief of various newspapers in Germany eventually took a position in Regina,Sask where he was instrumental in organizing the German Club and brought the German type of Oktoberfest to Regina.
I totally immersed myself into the Canadian way of life, served in the RCAF as an airframe technician in a Reserve Fighter Squadron and after my honorable discharge from the Airforce embarked on a civilian type of career and studies for a BA at Concordia University in Montreal and eventually an MBA at Queen's in Kingston.
I built an import/distribution company in Montreal of winter sport products and spent on average 3 trips to Europe every year on buying and exhibition trips, visiting many European countries where my ability to speak, read and translate German to English and vice versa stood me in good stead.
Tutoring Experience:
I taught German to Beginners,High School and University students in Montreal, to keep myself involved with the German language on a part-time basis- and also was a volunteer German teacher in the Encore Program at the Seaway College in Cornwall, Ontario.
Tutoring Approach:
Now retired, I keep myself active with teaching German to Beginners, Students and Business people who have realized that next to English the second most spoken language in Europe is German- not only in Germany,Austria or parts of Switzerland and Luxembourg, but also in neighbouring countries that cater to German speaking tourists- or who have studied at their universities.
When you study with me, you will learn to speak the German that is spoken on the street,at work, and in bars and restaurants- and not some boring, grammatically stilted German that identifies you as a foreigner
What I have noticed time and again that students seem to ask questions ok, but are totally lost in trying to understand the answers. With me you will be able to do both.

You have been a great tutor so far. You work to personalize the learning experience and bring interesting concepts to the lessons. I have enjoyed going through the mini-letter writing process and discussing the issues that come up. I also have been enjoying our discussions of the Das Echo editions. I look forward to working more with you and solidifying my German skills.

Thank you for your kind words about the German tutoring lessons we worked on together. Your keen interest in absorbing the lesson material and making it your own, was a joy to observe and made teaching the lessons a worthwhile endeavor.
I look forward to have you continue with me as your tutor in your quest to achieve full proficiency in the German language.
