Personal Description:
I came to my vocation late in my life having graduated with a BEd when I was 35. Prior to that I had I wide a varied career first in the Canadian military and then as a Stationary Engineer. Teaching has been and is my vocation. It is what I love most doing. I truly believe that God has granted me the opportunity to be a teacher.
I have two grown children, a granddaughter, a wife, and two cats, all of whom keep me busy. I am now retired and my jewelry making hobby keeps me busy. As I mentioned teaching is my passion and to keep my hand in now that I'm retired I look to tutoring.
Tutoring Experience:
I originally started teaching in Northern Alberta. First in a First nations isolated community teaching grade 3 to grade 6 for 4 years. I then moved on to teach at a community college teaching adult basic education and GED. After 8 years in the great white north I met my on wife on the internet and moved to Arkansas. I worked at a variety of jobs including work as a clerk/manager in a convenience store, a tutor, an adult educator teaching computer upgrade software in a hospital. I then taught Special Education classes in math, social studies/history, civics, Language Arts and Composition. I also taught Language Arts/Composition in an ESL setting
Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tutoring is open and flexible. What do I mean by that? Learning is not only dependent on a good and caring teacher but on a student who desires and is willing to learn. I can bring all my knowledge and skill to the learning table but the student needs to bring their willingness to the table. When the student reaches a point where they are in need of a tutor they may have already given up on themselves. That is not to say that the student can not learn or doesn't want to learn but they are now in a situation where they may feel as if they can not learn for what ever reason. Tutoring needs to be open and flexible enough to help the student recapture the joy of learning.
