Personal Description:
I'm Finn, an OCT-Certified high school teacher with years of experience with both one-on-one and classroom instruction.
I have a Master's Degree from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto and did my Bachelor's in Philosophy and English Literature. I have worked with youth and young adults in private instruction for over a decade.
Tutoring Experience:
For over a decade, I taught private music instruction to students of all ages (from infants to retirees!) in institutional and at-home settings. I learned to adapt my style to the needs of each student and develop my own teaching materials and curricula. While I pursued higher education, I began offering writing and research tutoring to university students, taught youth at summer camps, and facilitated educational programs at nonprofits. In 2024, I completed a Masters-level teacher education program at OISE/UofT and became certified in Intermediate/Secondary teaching in Ontario. I was recently hired to the supply teacher list at the Toronto District School Board.
Tutoring Approach:
I'm offering private tutoring for high school or post-secondary students, remote or in-home in the Toronto core. I can help with:
• academic writing skills
• study skills
• organization & time-management
• confidence
• critical thinking & argumentation
• public speaking
• college/university preparation
• goal-setting
• credit recovery
I work with a range of students of different ages, backgrounds, and goals:
• autistic students
• students with ADHD
• students with dyslexia/dysgraphia
• gifted students
• LGBTQ+ students
• newcomers to Canada
I work in the following subject areas, with a knowledge of the Ontario public curriculum:
• English language & literature (including Indigenous literature, NBE3U/C)
• Philosophy
• Social Sciences (Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology)
I do well with students who need specialized attention and alternative approaches. I'm patient, direct, and caring with my students.
