Personal Description:

My name is Emily and I teach high school science and literacy. I enjoy reading, staying active and travelling (when it is safe to do so). I have a passion for teaching and learning and I enjoy seeing students have their lightbulb moments when the concept finally kicks in. I have a laid back and friendly personality, but I can also be serious when it comes to learning. I have 4 degrees and I spent 10 years in university which demonstrates my love of learning!

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching science for over 14 years. I have a background in Biology and Animal Physiology. I completed my Master of Education degree in 2010 and my focus was on student literacy. I have tutored students in home settings and in hospital settings. I am very familiar with the Ontario Curriculum for Grades 9 and 10 science as well as Grades 11 and 12 Biology.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to build student confidence by starting with what they are interested in and what they already know. From there, we can work towards a greater understanding of scientific concepts by relating the topics to the real world. I like to incorporate humor and some interesting facts wherever possible. I have realistic expectations and will help students to achieve their very best! I hope that my students take their learning and turn it into a life long love for science.
