Personal Description:
My name is Emily , I am 21 and live in downtown Toronto. I recently graduated from McMaster University in Honours Biology. I have a strong background in various topics in biology (eg. physiology, ecology, genetics etc) and have experience teaching a variety of subjects to students of diverse backgrounds and age groups.
Tutoring Experience:
I was a volunteer teacher for a science summer camp at University of Toronto where I supervised and tutored children in grade 2. I acted as a mentor and tutor to children from grades 1-6 in a morning breakfast camp in the North Hamilton Community center. I also tutored at risk young from African in English, as well as math and science in English.
Tutoring Approach:
I believe that it is important to create a warm and inviting atmosphere while tutoring so that the student is not afraid to speak out and ask questions. I also believe that creating an efficient but friendly environment will allow students to show more enthusiasm towards their studyies. Therefore, as I tutor I also try to act as an older mentor to which they feel comfortable speaking and learning with.
