Personal Description:
I am a recent graduate of Branksome Hall, an all-girls private school in Toronto, and will be heading to the University of Toronto in the fall to study English. I'm an enthusiastic, curious student, and love both the craft of writing a comparative essay and the satisfaction of figuring out a tricky math problem. In my spare time, I enjoy playing guitar, reading, and I'm currently learning Russian. My first language is English, but I have conversational fluency in Mandarin as well.
I am available to tutor in the following fields:
- Music theory, beginner or intermedia**Contact Detail Removed**vels
- English (full score in IB Literature course)
- Essay editing and general essay skills (predicted A in my IB Extended Essay)
- Math
- Support for English Language Learners
Because of COVID-19 restrictions, I am not currently offering in-person tutoring.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been a volunteer peer tutor to younger students between the ages of 10-13 in French, math, and a history course offered at our school which is taken in French. These one-hour sessions focused on strengthening key curriculum skills and a guided approach to problem-solving.
My experience with younger children include volunteering at LEAP into Literacy summer camp, a literacy day camp for kids from Grades 1-6. During this time I worked closely with a Grade 1 class, facilitating activities and supporting the kids with reading and writing.
Having completed a rigorous leader-in-training program at overnight camp, I have planned and delivered engaging programming for both my peers and younger kids, including Environmental Education, well-being, leadership, and general peer support.
Tutoring Approach:
I encourage my tutees to set and work towards their personal academic goals. I am patient and believe in critical thinking and the power of learning from your mistakes, and that fostering interest and appreciation for the subject is an essential part of the process. I am professional and adaptable to each learner's personal learning style (i.e. visual vs. auditory). As a result, each tutee is able to make the most out of our time together.
