Personal Description:
I completed my MEd in Teaching and Learning and my BA and MA in French Studies, so I have a passion for all that has to do with language teaching and learning. I love to teach and read about sustainable living, architecture, philosophy, psychology and Harry Potter. I have a bright smile and contagious laughter that encourage students to just be themselves. Since I, myself, have gone through the language mastery journey, I understand new learners' struggles and I will not judge them for their mistakes. I will make students fall in love with language learning all over again! I recently completed a TESOL certificate in ESL teaching, including Business English. I am now teaching myself Korean to one day teach English at a university in South Korea.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been tutoring and teaching French or English for over 7 years now. I have been working with international students with their conversational skills in English and social integration for 5 years. I have also worked at several children day camps. I taught French for a year to government workers in Ottawa, so they can succeed in their language examination that is necessary for career advancement. When I was doing my MEd, I worked as an English as a Second Language Teaching Assistant for international students at the University of Ottawa. I have also worked as a Career Centre Services Coordinator at the Glendon Campus of York University, where I help university students with gaining essential career-related skills (e.g… writing good resumes, cover letters, mastering interview skills etc.).
Tutoring Approach:
I take a pluralistic active learning approach, so I make sure the student is no longer passive in their language learning, as well as allow them to take advantage of their first language. This means that I give them activities that build their critical thinking and problem solving skills. As a result, the student will become independent and confident in their own ability to communicate in different contexts and situations. Ultimately I want to help students build a more sustainable form of motivation that can be passed on to other subjects, thereby giving them the essential skills to not only communicate effectively (and happily) in a foreign language, but also to tackle anything that comes their way. *ONLY ONLINE TUTORING DUE TO COVID 19*

I offer you my sincere deepest apologies for not being able to follow through with the tuition request. I had not been able to determine the exact location of where the tuition was to take place (thus not know how far it would have taken to get there) due to fears of breaching the First Tutors policy to not share personal contact/location information until tuition has been confirmed. I do hope that First Tutors can work on modifying this policy as it is unfair and very frustrating for both parties to have to cancel tuition after finding out that the location after all is indeed too far. First Tutors, please allow both parties to exchange tutoring location details without moderating the responses.
I am very sorry again Harold for making you go through this disappointing experience. I was really looking forward to working with your daughters. I hope your next tutor search experience will be quick, easy and convenient.
Best of luck with everything,
Eileen
