Information About Débora
Toronto tutorPersonal Description:
Spanish is my mother tongue and moved to Canada as a teenager.
Tutoring Experience:
Over a year of direct Spanish tutoring online and face-to-face. Moreover, I'm an actor by profession and I have experience giving feedback and encouragement. I have also experience in classroom settings as a teacher's assistant.
Tutoring Approach:
I like providing/choosing together a material to read/watch and then having discussions about it. Where I get to ask questions and the student gets to practice speaking. Most of my work involves providing an opportunity for the student to practice speaking and listening and understanding Spanish as well as guiding them on what they need to work on to improve their Spanish speaking skills. Usually for an hour session, the students tells me what happened in the video/show they watched. I may prompt them by asking them questions ( depending on their level/preference) and they get to answer. This usually takes between 30 to 40 minutes. As they speak, I write down the mistakes they make. I try not to help too much, so that they get use to finding other ways of saying what they want to say. Then for the rest of the session, I repeat to them, in English, the sentences that they said wrong is Spanish the first time around, and I have them say them correctly. I usually give homework which is related to the mistakes they make while speaking. Some times I test them as an opportunity to practice what they worked on. The subject of the video/show they get to discuss is based on what the student is interested in. If the student is travelling to a country in the near future, we watch travel videos in Spanish regarding the place they'll be visiting.
