Personal Description:
I was born and raised in Ambato-Ecuador where I got my Doctorate in Social Communication with mention in Social Communication for Development. I moved to Trinidad and Tobago in 2004 where I had the opportunity to grow and develop my personal and new professional life. In 2005 I started the journey in Teaching Spanish as a Second Language. I prepared myself to master the language and I did different courses to learn about methodology, design of teaching materials for the effective use of the Spanish in the classroom, Assessment in class, Integrating Technologies; among others, since 2009 when I started to work at the Centre for Language Learning CLL in the University, I had the opportunity to do a Training Course of examiners in Diploma of Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE) and now I am one of the certified examiners for the six levels that offers DELE. Also I got a Postgraduate Certificate in University Teaching and Learning and a Master in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language
I am passionate to share not only the Hispanic tradition and culture but also the language of the peace Spanish to adult learners. My role as a teacher is to seek for new ways to deliver my classes, supporting learners and establish a relationship among students and teachers in a safe environment.
Tutoring Experience:
I teach Spanish as a foreign language for the past ten years in the Centre for Language Learning at the University. I choose to focus on the development of the four predominant skills involved in language learning, which include speaking, listening, reading and writing. Additionally, I focus on introducing students to various cultural aspects of the language. Learners will develop an initial ability to communicate in the target language in situations relating to their personal lives.
Tutoring Approach:
As a foreign language teacher tutoring persons of varying age groups, backgrounds and abilities I strive for good student/teacher relationship, where students feel comfortable enough to participate by asking questions and voicing their opinions and concerns in my classroom.
Since my delivery is student centered, my focus is on ensuring that the learner is able to understand and grasp as much as possible. I also attempt to show as much interest as possible in their progress and development without being too intrusive and treat them with the care and respect that they deserve.
