Personal Description:
Hello folks, thank you for taking time out of your day and taking an interest in my profile. I hope to find you all very well today.
My family calls me Jamie, and so may you, please. I am attending Brock University in my final year as an undergraduate mature student. I am a mature student 28 years of age. My field of study is Recreation and Leisure, but we'll discuss that later.
My academic peers describe me as conscientious, punctual, orderly and present. These characteristics are valuable when teaching and I put them to good use. My friends describe me as free-spirited, jovial, warm and enthusiastic. I balance the responsibilities of life with clean, childlike play. You will often find me in conservation areas on the trail or on the water in my canoe, with a book in my backpack and a song on my lips. Life is short and fleeting and I believe that we can make the best of every day if we set our intentions in order and then go with the flow.
Reading and writing are central aspects of my life. The human collective consciousness has been transcribed and laid bare for all to engage with and learn from. Strong reading skills continue to assist me learn about the world from the wise and grow as an individual. Through writing we clarify our thoughts, learn who we are, what we stand for, and communicate that with the world.
I adore teaching! I provides me with great joy and satisfaction. When I can see an individual being challenged and overcoming that challenge to learn a new skill, and triumph in the moment, well I think that's just the most wonderful.
Tutoring Experience:
I have worked with homeschooling curriculum for grades Four through Seven for English, Math, Social Sciences, History, Geography and the Sciences. I have tutored one child with special needs who had issues focusing on the material.
I am a working Teaching Assistant at Brock University. I work with first year students.
Tutoring Approach:
In Rec and Leisure we learn how to engage students, bring them into the moment and create emotional connections to material. I endeavor to connect with students on a personal level, to earn their trust and to open their minds. Optimal learning takes place when the students connects with the teacher.
True learning occurs through doing, and not merely reading or memorizing. Modern science and ancient wisdom teach us that engaging with the material is the key to learning.
I will attend to students mindfully, paying attention to where students are struggling and where they require more challenge. I understand that every students is an individual and therefor requires a unique approach. I will balance hard work with play, finding opportunities for humor and fun.
