WHAT MAKES ME A GREAT TUTOR-MENTOR?

Hello students, I am Mr. Ho from Hong Kong. I have been a licensed secondary school teacher in Hong Kong, teaching senior high school English, junior secondary school Mathematics and Computer Literacy.

I could definitely arouse the interest for those learning English as their second language and Mathematics. I am a professional yet chill tutor you can tell :)

I was graduated as a bachelor of arts, majoring in English at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. I studied in the stream of mainly English linguistics for 4 years. In this new age of language, adolescences are exposed to English on the internet with elements of popular culture. For instance, from songs, movies and I took courses about bilingual language studies and internet language, to be specific. I hope to bring you classes with interesting content and an energetic vibe!

Tutoring Experience:

I have 5 years of teaching experience, including private tutoring, summer camp tutor, a STEM educator, secondary school teacher.

ith my knowledge on how to make a good language transfer from the Chinese speaking students, I have the confidence to make learning vocabs and grammar easier to students of beginning level. Moreover, my independent research focuses on the language used in popular culture, I believe that my studies in language could enhance my teaching which nurtures students’ interest in English.

On condition they have great themes and materials of learning, English learning could be an enjoyable experience to them. In shorts, I have the faith in bringing interesting learnings to students who are lagging behind on academic performance.

Also, I have been a STEM tutor with fun activities!

Some students are great at academic results while some had their own talents in activities like coding and robots. I believe that I brought a great memory to them with my encouragement to develop themselves, which could surely inspire me with a better insight of how to be a good teacher in the future. After a year of management work in a STEM education, I was trained to be a more mature worker with patience. So, I am confidence of taking this duty as a teacher in my future.

Tutoring Approach:

I can understand your need. My experience as a class teacher and discipline teacher can help me strike a balance between the academic work and our relationships.

I was required to work as a class teacher for the whole 2020-2021 academic year, I was in charge of sports games and big events like singing contests and talent shows. As a result, I had a lot of communications with students. My age is relatively closer to the students in their adolescence, so I understand their rebellion or emotional status as a teenager with their pressure on shoulders. I speak their language while building a good mentor relationship as a non-typical discipline teacher, which is better than a stringent mode of class control. As a consequence, they obey to my classes and the regulations as well. I am proud to see they really enjoyed the class and understand the importance of obedience in a mature way, not blindly follow every rule.
