Information About Brodie
Vancouver tutorPersonal Description:
I am a current PhD candidate at UBC specialising in organic chemistry. Before moving to BC I lived in the UK where I completed my masters at the University of St Andrews. I would consider myself a laid-back and calm person, bringing a stress-free zone to a teaching environment. I have a strong passion for chemistry and love to share the knowledge I've gained with students who have decided to undertake the subject.
Tutoring Experience:
I have previous experience working as a private tutor covering chemistry at the International Baccalaureate and undergradua**Contact Detail Removed**vel. I also currently hold a TA position at UBC in the undergraduate teaching laboratories.
Tutoring Approach:
I initially like to speak with a student to gauge areas of weakness. The theory behind a given area is then covered and the knowledge consolidated with example problems. If the student felt confident already, then we would move straight to example problems and shift back to the theory wherever an issue may arise.
I like to answer questions with a question, but give enough information away in my response for the student to come to an understanding themselves. Alternatively, I would break an initial complex idea into more manageable and understandable pieces to build into a bigger picture.
