Personal Description:
Hi! My name is Brianna and I'm excited to help you reach your full potential! I'm a recent graduate from the Bachelor of Film and **Contact Detail Removed**vision program at Sheridan. Believe it or not, I loved school, I and I hope I can help you love it too by finding your passion within each subject you learn. I hope, as your tutor, you are able to walk away from each session with more skills that will give you the confidence to work on your own.
Tutoring Experience:
As the oldest sibling of 4 kids, I have helped in various subjects at various grade levels in my life. I have edited numerous papers, help turn an idea into a complete paper, create study tools and quizzes, and sat for hours practicing, practicing, practicing. I have also been a teaching assistant and worked at a summer camp for 5 years. As Camp Director, I created all the programming for ages 2-14 including instructional activities that cater to their age and capabilities. As a film student, I was also a business student and learned the ins and outs of the industry and how to be a business owner. For secondary students unsure of what career path they want to take, I could shed some light on different aspects of the business/entrepreneur world as the employee world.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tutoring varies depending on the age range I am working with. For all ages I work with, I want to help them find excitement in what they are doing. I prompt my students to pick topics for papers that interest them, to present projects in a style that is fun for them to work on, and to give practical examples about how this will help them in life. For preschool/kindergarten age, I use a lot of repetition and practice in fun and engaging game formats because of their short attention span. This also means I switch gears every 10 or so minutes to keep them engaged. I wouldn't recommend longer than an hour session at a time for this age group. For lower elementary kids, I prompt them to think for themself, asking lots of questions the help them find the answers on their own. I also try to switch gears often or take breaks when they are frustrated. I also do a lot of practicing and give students tool sheets to give them the steps to help them work on projects on their own. For upper elementary, I do a lot more editing of students work, prompting students to form solid ideas, providing tool sheets, and being a study partner for tests. For many students who struggle in subjects like history and geography, I will work on tools to help memorize content. For high school, I focus on critical thinking, prompting students to think more deeply about a subject matter to write better papers, teaching research strategies, editing papers, helping study for tests, and providing tool sheets to complete the process on their own in the future. I recognize not all students learn in the same way and can adapt to what works best for them.
