Courtenay tutorPersonal Description:
I am a passionate and certified BC educator with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and a minor in Computer Science. Having taught for four years in British Columbia’s public school system, I specialize in STEM subjects, including Science, Chemistry, Physics, Math and Computer Science. I strive to make complex concepts accessible and engaging for students of all learning styles and levels. With experience teaching a diverse range of subjects from Science to Digital Literacy, I bring a creative, interdisciplinary approach to tutoring. I am committed to helping students build confidence in their abilities and achieve their academic goals. In addition to my teaching qualifications, I have industry experience as a research chemist, adding real-world context to the subjects I teach.
Tutoring Experience:
Over the past four years, I have taught high school and middle school students in both classroom settings and through one-on-one instruction. My teaching experience spans grades 7 through 12, where I have instructed students in Science, Physics, Chemistry, and Computer Science. I have also taught specialized courses such as Programming, Media Arts, Animation, and Digital Literacy, focusing on fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills. In addition to classroom teaching, I have overseen gifted education programs, where I provided enrichment opportunities for advanced learners. My diverse background allows me to tailor my tutoring to meet the unique needs of each student, whether they require additional support in grasping fundamental concepts or are seeking to extend their knowledge beyond the curriculum.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tutoring is student-centered and adaptive. I believe in meeting students where they are and building on their strengths to foster a deeper understanding of the subject matter. I begin by assessing each student’s learning style and areas of difficulty, then customize my teaching strategies to ensure lessons are engaging and accessible. Whether working through problem-solving techniques in Physics or exploring creative coding projects in Computer Science, I emphasize critical thinking and active learning. My goal is not only to help students succeed academically but also to inspire curiosity and a love of learning. I maintain an open, supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and expressing their thoughts. Ultimately, I aim to empower students to become independent learners and build the skills they need to thrive in their academic journey.
