Information About Benjamin

Montreal tutor

Personal Description:

I am a current PhD student at McGill University in the department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, and work primarily out of the Lady Davis Institute for Medical Research at Montreal's Jewish General Hospital. My work is in cancer research, specifically, I am part of a team trying to develop new treatments for dangerous types of breast cancer. I came to Montreal after earning my B.Sc. in Biochemistry in my hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Tutoring Experience:

In addition to my education, I also have experience working in a variety of academic and industrial laboratories across scientific disciplines, including chemistry, biochemistry, biology, and molecular biology. I have previously worked as a teaching assistant at McGill and therefore have experience teaching university level material in science. I also have extensive experience working with children of all ages as a longtime swimming and first aid instructor, and enjoy helping kids to learn new things. I have no criminal record and a valid criminal record check with vulnerable sector search available upon request. I am able to tutor general science as well as biology at all levels; elementary, middle school, high school, CEGEP (if applicable), and undergraduate. I have only been in Quebec for a bit more than a year, and therefore my French is not yet good enough for tutoring purposes! Thank you for your time and consideration, and I hope that I will have the opportunity to work with you soon.
Gratefully,
Ben

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in two main principles when it comes to teaching science in general, and biology in particular; firstly, it is my belief that everything should be explained and explainable in simple, everyday, age appropriate language. Scientific ideas are usually simpler than their names might suggest! The second principle is to understand that nearly everything in science is connected to everything else, so once you understand one idea, you can find it popping up everywhere once you know where to look.
