Personal Description:
I am a Grade 12 student who loves to use his gifts to assist others in growing theirs, especially in school. I am a very involved student, as I not only have achieved honour roll from my school for all four years of high school, I have received many high-ranking academic awards, including the Principal's List, which I received in Grade 9 and 11, for the 10 students that had the highest cumulative averages in their grade cohort. I led my school's math club, helping club members when needed as well as preparing members to write various University of Waterloo Math Contests. I have recently had the opportunity to go on two mission trips last year, one abroad to Santiago, Chile, where I got to interact with some less fortunate families and assist in yard work at a local children's home with a small team of youth, and the other in Toronto, Canada, where a team of volunteers led a children's summer camp in the less fortunate areas of Downtown Toronto. My hobbies include: shooting with a basketball, learning programming languages, and playing with yoyos.
Tutoring Experience:
I have offered assistance to many students at my school, especially in the subject area of math. As an executive for my school's math club, I helped out students as needed with topics ranging from quadratic functions to probability.
I have also taught swimming lessons before to children aged 6-10, using the Lifesaving Society's swimming curriculum, and was required to accurately demonstrate skills and correct students' mistakes as needed, as well as report progress to an aquatic supervisor.
Tutoring Approach:
My belief is that the large majority of students in the world understand, to some extent, the knowledge and content that schools provide them with. Whether it be some stigma in their own minds, or simply for lack of trying, some students do not put in the effort to understand and apply those concepts. I believe that if I guide a student in the correct way, creating the proper habits and mindset to help fill the knowledge gaps that may have been formed early on in a student's learning, and try, as best as I can, to not simply provide an answer for a problem, but allow the student his or herself to come to a conclusion, I will have succeeded as a tutor.
