Personal Description:
Hello! My name is Ashley, I'm 19 and in my third year of the BBA International Dual Degree Co-op program in the Goodman School of Business at Brock University. I was born and raised in a French town just outside of Windsor, Ontario, and took French emersion until grade 7. In high school, I graduated with a Specialist High Skills Major in Business with top honor roll status. In University now I am the Vice President of Communications for DECA, the Vice President of Student Engagement at the Brock Innovation Group, and am on the Human Resources competition team for JDC Central. I have plenty of experience in teaching and guiding students as my role in all of the clubs involves preparing delegates to compete for case competitions and build their knowledge in their applicable discipline. I have also been an Irish dancer since I was 3 years old and began teaching the beginner class at the age of 14. I love spending time with my family and with all of the babies and children I babysit!
Tutoring Experience:
My first teaching experience was when I was as young as 14 years old. For 4 years I was an Irish dance teacher to the beginner class at my Irish dance Academy. This allowed me to analyze and effectively teach children with vastly different learning styles that worked best for them. My largest takeaway from that experience was that no two students learn the same and each learns and works at their own pace. I am also the babysitter for my neighborhood and take great enjoyment in using the opportunity with the children to learn and explore new things in unique and engaging ways. In the Business Students Association, I take on two different leadership roles that require me to educate and prepare students for success in the many case competitions we attend each year. I have sent and trained groups of 5 to 60 students who experience great success.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tutoring is completely based on the unique learning styles of each student. Some students are more visual learners where others are more tactile. The approach to educating the student should be entirely different because no two learners are the same. It's important to make sure that the student is engaged and retaining the information that is being discussed before moving into the next concept/topic.
